With wide-ranging general expertise in the field, John has held top internal
communication roles for large companies. He specializes in deploying strong
skills in research and data collection methodology to analyze the effectiveness
of communication projects for diverse clients, including Adobe, Applied Biosystems, Hewlett Packard and Xilinx.
John’s knowledge of systems and technology enable him to play an applications
management role in high-level communication work.
Shortly after becoming Chief Executive Officer of Hewlett Packard, Mark Hurd
regularly employed a fast and simple survey process, constructed and overseen by
John, to keep close track of employee engagement during a critical companywide
transformation. For Mr. Hurd’s predecessor, Carly Fiorina, John provided event
management expertise, including event planning, logistics, speaker preparation
and event evaluation
John also specializes in the design and implementation of corporate training
and organizational development programs. Before joining ROI, he served as the
first training manager for Network Appliance, where he managed the company’s
leadership development program and created a successful intranet portal for
managers around the globe. He also served as training lead on the implementation of a new ERP
system.
At Quantum, John designed the company’s first new manager training program,
oversaw technology and employee training and the company’s technical research
libraries. During his tenure, Training magazine named Quantum one of the
top ten training organizations in America. While there, he also managed the
implementation of the company’s web-based learning management system, several
years before this format became the industry norm.
At Quantum and Network Appliance, John led successful efforts to earn
recognition for both companies on Fortune’s "100 Best Companies to Work for in
America" list.
John is an active board member of the Public Relations Society of America,
and also serves as president of the Silicon Valley chapter of the International
Association of Business Communicators. He has a B.A. in Industrial Psychology
from the University of Wisconsin, and an M.S. in Industrial/Organizational
Psychology from San Jose State University.
